Alarms and Logs Documents Delivered in HTML
2008-11-05
As a part of Nortel's continuing effort to improve Nortel technical documentation,
Knowledge Services is pleased to announce that the Alarms and Logs Reference document
(NN10275-909) is now available online in an HTML format. Knowledge Services began this
initiative two years ago by collecting alarms and logs in a database. This allowed us to create
HTML content to improve the user experience. The new format provides easier navigation for
users who need to find alarms/logs based on a network element, a severity or alphabetically. The
document is applicable to CVM12 and previous releases and currently contains CVoIP information.
Plans for other products are outlined below.
To access the document, visit
www.nortel.com/support.
Click
Voice, Multimedia, & Unified Communications.
Then scroll down to
Carrier VoIP
Networks and select
VoIP Infrastructure Solutions. Note: All CVM11 and CVM12
content is now provided under this category as we continue to implement Nortel's new software
release strategy.
A new screen appears for VoIP Infrastructure information. Click
Show All Documentation.
A new screen appears displaying all VoIP Infrastructure Solution documents. To search for
the document number, type in all or part of the document number and select the
Number option
and click
Apply Filters. The screen below shows the search criteria and results.
This document can be accessed in HTML and PDF formats or from a zip file. To identify the
HTML document, select the document with the date in the Rev information (in our example:
Rev 200809160900). As all logs appear in the single HTML file you can also identify the
HTML document because it will not have multiple volumes like the PDF documents. This document
is searchable on the TS Portal (HTML will be noted as the Document Type). Below is an excerpt
of the HTML document. You can navigate by network elements, severity, or by name alphabetically.
You may also do a "find" in the document by using
ctrl+f.
Any errors should be reported using normal processes by creating a CR. To enter a CR, ensure
you include the log number in the CR title and NN10275-909 in the Product field. Please
indicate in the notes that you were viewing the HTML file of the log document and provide the
publication date and volume number. Once entered, the CR should be dispatched to the appropriate
design team and once the content is updated and verified, design will submit the content to be
republished.
Feedback on the Alarms and Logs document and how this new HTML approach works for you should be sent to

at 615-432-4664.
