Wireless Packet Networking Solutions
Wireless networks are evolving to 3G and beyond, unveiling a host of new revenue and generating high-speed data, messaging and multimedia services. To accommodate this rapid growth, wireless operators are migrating to multiservice packet networking solutions, which provide superior network and traffic consolidation to reduce costs while offering flexible evolution paths.
Nortel leads the industry in delivery of carrier-class reliable, QoS assured and secure packet networking solutions to wireless service providers. Nortel's extensive family of Multiservice Switches (MSS 7400/15000/20000) and Metro Ethernet Routing Solutions deliver advanced packet networking benefits to both current and emerging next generation wireless networks, including those supporting DCMA/CDMA2000, GSM/UMTS/HSDPA and WLAN services.
Wireless operators use our multiservice switching and Ethernet routing products to provide packet networking for both wireless radio access network (RAN) and packet core network applications. In wireless RANs, operators deploy our multiservice switching products to build the packet infrastructure for backhauling and aggregating traffic from wireless base stations into mobile switching centers in order to reduce costs and improve efficiency. RANs have traditionally been based on leased TDM facilities, but now are in transition to packet technologies to address wireless data growth and the need to consolidate 1G, 2G and 3G access traffic onto a common, scalable, access topology. Nortel ATM/IP based RAN solutions are widely deployed today and enable operators to reduce leased transport cost while scaling to accommodate new data and multimedia traffic growth more efficiently.
As operators evolve to IP-based RANs, they will require IP, Ethernet and MPLS-based backhaul solutions. Nortel is equipped to help operators in this migration through our evolving Multiservice Switch and Metro Ethernet Routing Switch portfolios.
