Grey Market and Secondary Market
Nortel recognizes that the current economic climate is driving some customers to purchase equipment from unauthorized resellers on the secondary market (which deals in previously used equipment - not new) or the grey market (unauthorized resale of new equipment), or to resell unneeded equipment and other assets in order to gain access to cash. Prices from unauthorized resellers can appear to be a compelling proposition to enterprises and service providers, as well as speculators. But the capital savings netted through unauthorized resellers has to be weighed against other risk factors that many people may be unaware of, including:
- Unknown and potentially untested equipment
- Potential service and support issues for equipment not under warranty because of unauthorized sale, invalid software license, and transfer of ownership. For more details please see updated
Nortel Global Warranty Policy
- Software Right To Use (RTU) licenses that are non-transferable and leave the buyer liable for intellectual property rights infringement
- Performance issues for equipment not properly tested before installation
- Securing support through Nortel authorized distribution partners and resellers
With these considerations in mind, Nortel provides this website
as a reference point for both buyers of new or secondary equipment,
and sellers of secondary market equipment. For your convenience,
we provided differentiated sites for Enterprise and Service Provider
customers because of the inherent differences in their business
models.
