Compatible Product configuration and testing notes for MediaPack 11x Series by AudioCodes Inc. with Communication Server 2000


The test effort verified a basic level of interoperability between the Audiocodes - Media Pack-11x FXS (SIP Media Gateways- 2,4 and 8 ports) Release 5.00A.030.003 and Nortel’s Communication Server 2000 (CS 2000) Release (I)SN09U . This successful testing establishes the Audiocodes - Media Pack-11x FXS (SIP Media Gateways) as Nortel compatible products for the releases tested. Testing included basic communication and basic call functionality between the devices. It is the service provider’s responsibility to perform appropriate system and network integration of the Audiocodes Media Pack-11x FXS (SIP Media Gateway) with the CS 2000 based on their network deployment requirements.

Test Exclusions:

-Redundancy, carrier grade, and traffic or robustness scenarios were not tested as these fall outside of basic interop testing.
Voice quality was only checked through audible means between parties.

Nortel Limitation: NAT device (Netgear) is unable to match the response (i.e. 407 Proxy Authentication Required) with the appropriate transaction (i.e. REGISTER request from MP- 118. This prevents the 407 sip response from reaching the MP-118 during NAT and Firewall Traversal testing.

Nortel Limitation: All SIP messaging is exchanged correctly between MP-118 and PVG, but due to network delay, the fax does not go through when testing Fax Call - In-band w/g729 upspeed..

Nortel Limitation: Due to lab constraints, these test cases could not be executed
-Fax Call - T.38 w/g729 upspeed, H.323 to 3PSL
-Modem Call - In-band w/g729 upspeed, PVG to 3PSL
-Modem Call - In-band w/g729 upspeed, H.323 to 3PSL

AudioCodes Limitation: MP-118 does not support calls with Additional Media (Video, File Transfer and Instant Message) when they are the originator. However the messaging was ignored and the call was handled gracefully.

Nortel Limitation: Call Transfer while Ringing - Terminator Transfers H.323 to 3PSL to 3PSL Cannot be executed at this time as No ringback heard on A after C is transferred to A. Call goes through and speech path is present

The following features are not supported by MP-118:
-Direct Call Transfer - Terminator, Orignator or to a Busy Line. Note that other types of call transfer are supported.
-Three Way Calling (3WC) - MP11x box supports 3-Way Conference using an external media server only
-CWT - Hold First Call (Reminder Ring not implemented until a later version. A is not alerted that C is on hold after A hangs up with B. C then gets treatment.
-CWT - Double CWT
-Operator Services: Emergency Assistance Call Setup
-Operator Services: Emergency Assistance Operator Ringback

Observations/Open Issues:

-Call Forwarding All Calls, no Call Forward Indication AudioCodes is Partially Compliant - The Ring splash (Forward reminder) will not be played by MP-118 gateway. The call forward indication (CFIND) dialtone will not be heard. No ringsplash or CFIND dialtone heard as a limitation of the MP-118. Audiocodes has to further investigate if SUBSCRIBE message is sent to core.

-Conferencing - Link before answer AudioCodes Limitation: Conferencing is supported using VSC - Conferencing of ringing line not allowed. The line has to be answered first before conferencing can take place.

-T.38 w/g729 Upspeed AudioCodes Limitation: With the values IsFaxUsed =3, DetFaxOnAnswerTone=0 and CNGDetectorMode = 0, the fax went through on CED/V.21 preamble. For a fax call, if triggering T.38 on CED or V.21 allows the fax to be transmitted successfully, the testcase will be considered a pass as audio and image have been negotiated in the initial invite. This is noted as it is not preferred to trigger T.38 on CED without re-invite to 711 as per (I) SN09 IP Gateway Interop Requirements "Succession CS 2000 Release SN09/ISN09"
