Compatible Product configuration and testing notes for ServiceController 3100 by SS8 Networks with Communication Server 2000

the test effort is considered a basic level of interoperability between the SS8 Networks Service Controller 3100 voice messaging server release 3.1.1 Build 50, and Nortel Communication Server 2000 (CS 2000), SN09/SN09U. This recognizes the SS8 Networks Service Controller 3100 voice messaging server as a Nortel compatible product for the releases tested. The testing included basic validation of SIP call control between the devices. It is the service provider’s responsibility to perform the appropriate system and network integration of the SS8 Service Controller 3100 with the CS 2000 based on their network deployment requirements.

Nortel testing included:

>>Basic voice mail functionality with different CS2000 network operation parameters:
-       Leave and Retrieve voicemail, G711u, 20ms ptime
-       Leave and Retrieve voicemail, G711a, 20ms ptime
-       Leave and Retrieve voicemail, G711a, G711u, 20ms ptime
-       Leave and Retrieve voicemail, G729, G711a and G711u, 20ms ptime, RFC2833, Comfort Noise
-       VMS Out Call, G711u, 20ms ptime
-       VMS Out Call, G711a, 20ms ptime
-       VMS Out Call, G711a, G711u, 20ms ptime
-       VMS Out Call, G729, G711a and G711u, 20ms ptime, RFC2833, Comfort Noise
-       A Out Call from VMS to B, A uses G711u no RFC2833, B uses G729 with RFC2833
-       G711 Fax Delivery and Retrieval

Observations:

-       The SS8 SC3100 VMS does not support PRACK.
-       The SS8 SC3100 VMS does not support SIP REFER.
-       The SS8 SC3100 VMS does not provide audible ringback to the caller when it received a 180 ringing. The SC3100 Easy Answer feature is designed to work this way. It prompts the caller before the out call is placed and after the out call terminates. It bridges the two legs of the calls after the out call is answered.
-       The SS8 SC3100 VMS only supports G711 codec for fax calls.
-       The SS8 SC3100 VMS does not support ptime of less than 20ms.
-       The SS8 SC3100 VMS does not support autonomous switching of codecs.

Limitations/Restrictions:
-       General SIP protocol conformance outside that which is specific to SN09/SN09FF
-       CS 2000 will not test redundancy, carrier grade, traffic or robustness scenarios as these fall outside of basic interop testing. Voice quality will only be checked through audible means between parties.
-       Unless otherwise specified, OPTIONS for heartbeat disabled, and E.164 format disabled (no international long distance, North American 10 digit dialplan NPA-NXX) for all tests.

-       CS 2000 sends 180 Ringing to Invites, not 183 Session Progress. CS 2000 can receive and process 183 Session Progress but will not send it as there are no devices currently on the CS 2000 side that will play out packet side ringing in the RTP media stream.
