Tell me about yourself and your experience at Nortel?
Over my 9 years at Nortel, I have played different roles within Finance, starting in Corporate Services Finance, moving on to Customer Facing Finance, Business Management, and the Control Team progressively. I am currently leading a team of accounting and audit professionals in the Asia Sarbanes-Oxley Team, driving the implementation to be compliant with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act requirements across Asia. My team and I travel around countries in Asia to provide guidance and recommendations to ensure the effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting.

How did you end up working at Nortel?
I joined Nortel right after my graduation from MBA in Toronto, Canada. I chose Nortel because Nortel is one of the largest global companies and industry leaders in telecommunication. I strongly believed that my knowledge in Finance and MIS would be fully realized.

What are your career aspirations?
I would like to continue to develop myself in different areas in finance and eventually to be at the Financial Executive level at Nortel.

What is most inspiring in your job?
There are a lot of things which are inspiring in my current job. What inspires me the most is that I am working with a great team that resembles a big family. The team consists of bright people with great intelligence and amazing personalities. The team members are located in different locations around the globe. We are coherent despite coming from different countries with different cultures and backgrounds. We face challenges together, share our experiences, and learn from each other. We are motivated to give ideas and share our opinion. This is how we ensure our success as one team!

My job also requires me to interact with other Nortel employees around the world. Working with them also allows me to understand and learn from their cultures, knowledge and experiences. This does not restrict myself within my area of specialization but broaden my knowledge horizon and help in my personal developments.

How do you describe Nortel as an employer?

Describe your relationship with management.
With the "Open Door" culture in Nortel, all levels of management are very accessible. I have an open and friendly relationship with my management. Clear and informative directions are given to ensure that we can achieve common goals as a team. I am given the autonomy to lead my team. My management is always there to provide advice and guidance. I am assured of enough support and resources to carry out my work.

What values are important to succeed at Nortel?
Positive Attitudes and Trust - Even though we face all kinds of challenges in our daily work, always maintain a positive attitude that there is a "solution" for any problem. How you see things and deal with situations depend on your attitude. Nortel is a company with lots of great people. Trust your leaders, partners and team members as we work together, do the right things, and move in the same direction to ensure the company's success.

What is it like to work for a global company? Have you had the opportunity to travel, work, or live in other cities or countries?
One of the greatest things working at Nortel is that it provides continuous job rotation opportunities which allows me to gain incredible experiences and exposures in different parts of the world.

Nortel has relocated me from country to country in my career with the company. I have been to Canada, China and I am currently based in Hong Kong. I have had the opportunity to visit more than 15 countries around the world.
