GMA Network Deploying Nortel Voice Solution to Enhance Internal Communications

Solution to Provide Platform for Future Migration to IP Telephony

MANILA, Philippines – GMA Network, one of the Philippines' leading broadcast companies, is deploying a voice communications solution from Nortel* [NYSE/TSX: NT] for more efficient internal communications and to provide a platform for future migration to IP (Internet Protocol) telephony. Support and maintenance services will be provided by local Nortel channel partner, Trends & Technologies.

The GMA Network deployment, under an agreement signed in September 2004, includes the IP-enabled Nortel Meridian* PBX as well as a range of Nortel digital telephones and a fully digital attendant console.

"Reliable and efficient voice communications is a vital component of our business," said Joselito B. Remulla, vice president, Information and Communication Technology, GMA Network. "This new Nortel PBX is a significant step forward for us as it will resolve our current telephony issues, which include intermittent dropped calls, as well as enable a seamless evolution to voice over IP technology building on prior investment when the need arises."

"The local broadcasting industry comprises a very few select players, and we view this contract with GMA Network as highly significant," said Tony Pio de Roda, managing director, Nortel Philippines. "It stresses the vital role of quality and dependable voice communications in employee interaction and in interfacing with the public and local business community."

Nortel Meridian Option 61C PBX is a business grade platform supporting both traditional voice and voice over IP communications for companies requiring from 200 to 2,000 lines. As an IP-enabled system, the new PBX will allow a move into the world of IP telephony with significant investment protection and confidence, providing support for new applications, lower costs through convergence and user mobility, as well as increased security and network resilience.

GMA Network is also deploying digital telephones from the Nortel M3900 portfolio, providing display-based interfaces, call logs, self-labeling keys and simplified administration to the desktop. Providing an efficient call answering and message center, the Nortel M2250 Attendant Console handles calls in sequence or prioritizes answering for specific types of calls.
