Güzel Sanatlar/Saatchi & Saatchi Provides Secure, Reliable Communications with IP from Nortel

Converged Voice-Data Infrastructure Supports Fast Pace of Advertising Industry

ISTANBUL, Turkey – Güzel Sanatlar, the Turkish affiliate of leading advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi, is now providing its new seven-floor headquarters with voice and high-speed data communications through a single, IP (Internet Protocol) network using solutions from Nortel* [NYSE/TSX: NT].

By converging multiple networks into one highly secure and reliable IP network, the agency’s 110 employees can draw on such advanced services as IP Telephony, unified messaging, video conferencing and both wireless and wireline remote access to meet the fast-paced demands of the advertising industry.

The converged communications network was deployed by Nortel Netaş, a Nortel subsidiary, and Nortel Netas channel partner Datagrup.

“We wanted to renew both our voice and data transmission simultaneously and with the latest technology,” said Uğur Kır, IT manager, Güzel Sanatlar/Saatchi & Saatchi. “The technology we chose had to not only meet our current requirements but be flexible to meet future requirements as well. We also wanted to work with a single supplier. Our former systems were also based on Nortel products and once we explained our needs, Datagrup together with Nortel proved to be the right choice.”

Renewing its formerly analog voice communications system with a Nortel Meridian* 1* digital switchboard, Güzel Sanatlar/Saatchi & Saatchi built a converged voice and data infrastructure. In addition to direct access, the system has voice messaging, unified messaging, video conferencing, remote access, IP telephony and wireless access features.

Connected to the Turk Telekom network using ISDN, the Nortel Meridian 1 connects outside callers to subscribers directly without operator assistance. A key aspect of the system is the wireless telephones. Thanks to the Nortel Meridian DECT (Digital European Cordless Phone) solution with its DECT wireless phones, Güzel Sanatlar/Saatchi & Saatchi employees are now able to freely roam in the seven-floor building, and can be reached when called.

The integrated Meridian DECT system offers a range of features designed to provide business flexibility and drive reduced costs. For example, voice messaging and the ability to access voice mail anywhere are among the favorites of agency employees. If required, the system can easily evolve to offer IP telephony applications for further improvements in productivity and customer service.

The enterprise communications infrastructure is based on Nortel gigabit Ethernet technology in the local area network (LAN) backbone, including Nortel BayStack* Ethernet Switches. Part of the Nortel enterprise data portfolio, BayStack 5510-24T Ethernet Switches and BayStack 425 24T gigabit Ethernet technology were chosen because high-speed network access is fundamental in the advertising sector to produce and share ideas rapidly. With this technology, very large image files consisting of pictures and drawings can be quickly transferred.
