Nortel Networks, SeaChange International to Jointly Market VoD Transport Solution

Nortel Networks* and SeaChange International plan to jointly market to cable multiple system operators (MSOs) an integrated optical transport solution for video on-demand (VoD) services. The companies have demonstrated platform interoperability in a ‘real world’ VoD configuration at Nortel Networks labs and through SeaChange’s laboratory Verification Testing Program.

SeaChange International, based in Maynard, Mass., provides digital video systems that enable automated and fault-resilient delivery of on-demand services. Nortel Networks offers cable MSOs a range of technology options suitable for delivery of VoD services, including Nortel Networks Optical Metro 5200 Multiservice Platform.

The companies have tested SeaChange video servers with Nortel Networks Optical Metro 5200 – a switched, dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) platform for converged networks – to verify that this integrated solution will provide scalable delivery of VoD services without network latency and jitter issues. This capability will allow cable MSOs to reduce network complexity and cost by building and managing converged, multiservice transport solutions rather than multiple networks.

Nortel Networks solutions are designed to help cable operators drive new revenue opportunities and reduced operating costs. Nortel Networks comprehensive, integrated cable solutions span video and video on-demand, voice and multimedia communications, high-speed data services, managed network services for business customers, and next generation access.

Nortel Networks continues to execute on its three commitments to the cable service provider market – new product development geared specifically to cable applications; commitment to the technology and standards organizations that serve the cable industry; and implementing real-world solutions that address the fundamental business and networking challenges of cable operators.
