SK Telecom Selects Nortel Networks Optical Solution for Wireless Network BackbonePlans to Maximize Profit Potential With High-Speed Broadband Wireless Services SEOUL, Korea – SK Telecom, a leading provider of information and communications services in Korea, has selected a Nortel Networks* [NYSE/TSE: NT] solution to build a 10-gigabits per second (Gbps) optical backbone for its high-speed broadband wireless network. The solution was sold through local distributor NSI Technology Ltd. Unleashing the potential for SK Telecom to profit from the high-performance Internet, this optical backbone will enable cost-effective delivery of carrier-class broadband wireless services. Korea is one of the fastest growing communications markets in the world, according to the Korea National Computerization Agency, with nearly two-thirds of the population connected to the Internet, and half owning mobile phones. High Internet and mobile phone penetration rates present opportunities for SK Telecom to profit by offering high-speed broadband wireless services.
