After a reset of LAPS 16pOC3 MS3 card, the correct egress EMI info is not ready for the newly created static ARP entry. This is caused by the 3 messages - pvc up, pvc down and media registration being re-ordered due to differing transmission paths involving the AtmMpe side of this specific configuration. The EMI info is valid after a short time, but ARP missed the opportunity to update its EMI info. This results in failure to send out BGP packets accordingly and the BGP peers don't establish. CR Q01230733: Missing ARP Entry Sometimes, in large scale scenarios, when locking or unlocking remote VRFs, ARP may fail to process a PVC up message. The RT identifies the VPN within the 2547 network. Generally, routes to be sent to the PE are bundled in a single update message. These routes share the same path attribute information - including the RT. Under stress conditions, the software may bundle routes in the wrong update message. Note, though this issue was present prior to PCR7.1, it was very unlikely to occur (requires a VRF to be deleted/locked at the same time). In PCR7.1, the introduction of the inter-VRF feature has increased the probability of occurrence. Impact: The remote VRF will not forward data packets to the PE sending the routes for that VPN. Also the wrong VRF will advertise those routes to its connected CE. Solution: The software used to bundle the 2547 routes has been re-designed in two ways: 1. The software that bundles the messages now contains a check to ensure that a route's RT being added to an update message actually matches the RT of that update message. 2. The above check was originally not required since the routes being gathered in this manner were processed for one RT. However, during the all TCP BGP peer buffer condition, the software was left in a state that could allow incorrect bundling if the software attempted to bundle routes for another RT. This design has also been corrected (the root cause). First the Spectra chip receives the OC3 then it is passed to the TBS chip which is responsible for splitting the signal to pass it both across the sparing bus to the paired card and also passing it to the tmux84 chip which muxes the signal down to a VT1.5. When the VSP3o card resets there is a communication issue between the TBS and tmux84 mux chip that causes the card to falsely report Loss of Pointer. This error reporting only shows to be after the TBS chip splits the incoming OC3 signal. Their new fix that has been tested November 3 in the Orlando node and 22 VSP3o switchovers resulted in no cases of the active VT1.5s reporting loss of pointer. This fix, on card becoming enabled, checks for LOP, then writes a bit change to the TBS chip which forces it to restart its service and clear the incorrect LOP. Since they are now performing this on the card while it is the spare, the chance of affecting voice traffic is removed. During the boot sequence the CPU on these cards locks up because of software access to an invalid memory address. This lockup is caused by the fact that the early part of the boot code tries to access jumperInfoSegment. In the absence of this segment it lands in memory address at offset 0x0. This memory address after a powercycle has invalid data which when de-referenced by software causes a CPU lockup i.e. parity error bus-error, pci-error or some other type of error. Solution: If the cards are pre-programmed with jumperInfoSegment then the software will terminate gracefully as it would find the segment in its search thereby avoid going into the address space at 0x0. Therefore, this patch will create segment 12(jumperInfoSegment) on all PPC cards.
