LG-Nortel is a Nortel majority owned (50+1) Joint-Venture between Nortel and LG Electronics in Korea, signed under MacKinnon's leadership in August 2005. Named Chairman of the Board in November 2005 and appointed to this full time position by Nortel's CEO in Feb. '06. MacKinnon is accountable for the financial results of the JV.

In this role, MacKinnon has full accountability in charting and executing the strategy for this multi-hundred million dollar start-up. The JV has more than doubled its revenues since its inception, and has achieved #1 domestic (Korean) market position in Wireless and Enterprise voice. More specifically, MacKinnon led the creation of the LG-Nortel growth initiatives to drive continued business momentum: Ethernet Access WDM-PON through the acquisition of Novera Optics, WLL & femto through the acquisition of the WLL business unit from LGE, and the new SMB business initiative. These new products are marketed both through LG-Nortel and other global channels.

Prior to this, MacKinnon was president, GSM/UMTS from October 2004 to February 2006. He previously served as Nortel's senior vice president, Wireless Networks Americas, responsible for product sales and marketing. And, before this role in early 2000, he spent three years as vice-president and general manager of Nortel's wireless business unit for the Asia-Pacific region, based in Singapore. During that time, he and his team tripled wireless business in the region.

Prior to joining the Asia-Pacific team, MacKinnon was based in Paris with global responsibility for the product management and marketing efforts of Nortel's GSM networks business which grew 10-fold, to over $1B. Prior to his roles in Wireless, MacKinnon spent 10 years in various SONET and SDH optical roles, with specific accountability for the OC-48 portfolio strategy. During his career, he has worked in the U.S., Canada, UK, France and Singapore.

MacKinnon earned an MBA as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He is fluent in English and French and enjoys experiencing different cultures. He also plays ice hockey and golf. MacKinnon and his wife have two daughters and a son.

He is currently based in Richardson, Texas.
