Alvio Barrios is president for Nortel's Caribbean and Latin America region (CALA). In this position, he is responsible for overseeing all sales, operations and marketing activities for the company's business in CALA.

Alvio has been with Nortel for over a decade, where he has held various positions of increasing responsibility within the company's engineering, marketing and sales organizations. Most recently, he was regional sales vice president responsible for some of Nortel's largest customers and strategic accounts in the CALA region. He has a solid sales and management track record and in-depth knowledge of the region.

As regional sales vice president, he successfully launched business initiatives to address new market segments and increase sales. These included: VoIP solutions for cable Multiple System Operators (MSOs) triple play; hosted applications to enable fixed mobile convergence; packet over optical solutions to improve cost per megabit; and broadband wireless solutions focused on 4G technologies to fuel broadband penetration in the region.

He led sales teams focused on Tier 1 accounts such as Telefonica and was responsible for expanding Nortel's sales strategy to penetrate and expand business in the mobility, enterprise and optical segments. He improved operations through Six Sigma projects and implemented new go-to-market strategies to increase touch points and improve relationships with Nortel's customers.

Alvio has over 16 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. He holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering with honors from Florida International University and has completed several Executive Leadership programs.
