Recycling and Reuse Programs
Campinas
Nortel in Campinas, Brazil has successful recycling programs in partnership with institutions to benefit children who live in orphanages. Campinas provides various organizations waste paper and wood for re-use, recycling or energy recovery. In one partnership with ABPF (Associação Brasileira de Preservação Ferroviária), the organization recompenses Nortel by providing orphan children with train tickets for leisure travel. The program benefits more than 240 children a year.

For electronic waste, Campinas sells the waste to Cimelia. The materials provided to Cimelia includes heavy and light board, connector boards with and without metals, soft and tense aluminum, mixed components, iron and copper. Paper, plastic, cans, glass and organic wastes collected at Campinas are provided for recycling by Motriz, a local company. Funds raised are used to sponsor about 100 children from two philanthropic organizations.
