About Nortel Greenroots

Greenroots is a blog devoted to all things green at Nortel. Now, this obviously establishes a wide swath of possible topics and we have intentionally sought to keep a broad scope for topics of discussion. With greenroots, we want to share our experiences through our efforts to be a green company, the successes, struggles and challenges. We also want to provide our perspective on the future directions for corporate level green initiatives, as we see them from inside our company and as members of the various industry groups. Through greenroots, we want to get your views on existing policies and actions and get your perspective on where you see the ever emerging green issues taking Nortel, and the broader global economy.

Examples of topics that we consider fair game certainly include climate change, energy efficiency, e-waste, green benefits from telecommuting and other collaborative tools, green packaging and any other general Corporate Social Responsibility topics. If there is a topic you don’t see covered, let us know and we will do our best to get something up on that topic in a timely manner.

About the blogger:

Hi, my name is Wilson Korol and I work in Nortel’s Corporate Citizenship group. I have worked at Nortel more than 2 years, having come to the company during and after completing graduate degrees at Duke University in Public Policy and Environmental Management.

I have spent my entire tenure with Nortel in the Corporate Citizenship group, which has enabled me to be involved in a wide variety of projects and programs. That diversity is one of the aspects of my job that I really enjoy. Examples of my work at Nortel include managing Nortel’s annual and quarterly carbon footprinting, leading our sustainability efforts for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games, conducting analysis for Nortel’s human rights policy and procedure, serving on our Global Green Council and managing our internal employee engagement Green Scene website. I am a dedicated teleworker and have taken advantage of the flexibility from telecommuting to work all over the globe during my time at Nortel. Lastly, I should note that I am not a technical expert by any stretch, rather a Corporate Social Responsibly (CSR) practitioner and expert.

I am looking forward to our discussions in greenroots. To provide any feedback on your experience at greenroots, please post comments as I will be monitoring those on an ongoing basis or email me at wilsonko@nortel.com.
