Optical Solutions for Cable Operators

Primary and Secondary Metro Networks are the backbone of cable operator networks today, distributing numerous services including uncompressed digital video, Internet data, VoIP, TDM voice and control system data. Where multiple, disparate overlay networks were needed to deliver these services in the past, Nortel's next generation converged optical networks combine these into a single unified solution.

Metropolitan Optical rings based on Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) or Next-Generation SONET/SDH platforms are capable of transporting multiple streams of uncompressed broadcast video, video-on-demand, Internet access, high speed data connectivity, commercial services and voice over IP all over a single fiber pair.

Nortel's WDM solutions include the Common Photonic Layer (CPL), Optical Multiservice Edge (OME) 6500, and Optical Metro 5000 coarse/dense WDM family of products. Next Generation SONET/SDH platforms include the Optical Metro 3000/4000 and OME 6500. Nortel's converged transport solutions yield both capital and operational expense savings as equipment investment is reduced, flexibility is increased and services are shared over common infrastructures.
